Ancient Burial Mounds Found in Kazakhstan
Archaeologists in Kazakhstan’s West Kazakhstan region have discovered around 150 burial mounds dating back to the Early Iron Age. One mound, encircled by a moat 140 meters wide, may have belonged to a tribal leader or noble. The site is unusual for its diverse mound designs—circular, rectangular, and even twin-ring structures—rare in Eurasian archaeology. Experts say the discovery sheds light on funerary practices, social hierarchies, and migrations of early steppe cultures like the Scythians and Saka. Researchers believe the site could become a landmark in Central Asian archaeology.
