5000 Year Old Megalithic Tomb Unearthed in Spain
Archaeologists in Andalusia have uncovered a massive 5,000-year-old stone tomb (dolmen) near Teba, measuring 43 feet (13 meters) in length. The structure, built with vertical stone slabs and capped with large horizontal stones, was used as a collective burial site.
Inside, researchers found ossuaries containing human remains along with grave goods such as seashells, ivory, arrowheads, and a halberd weapon. The seashells, found far inland, highlight long-distance trade networks in prehistoric Iberia.
This dolmen is considered one of Andalusia’s most monumental and best-preserved funerary structures, reflecting ritual, social, and possibly territorial practices of early agricultural communities. Ongoing research will further reveal its role in prehistoric society.
