Hundreds of Celtic Coins Unearthed in Czech Republic
Archaeologists in the Czech Republic have uncovered a treasure trove of more than 2,500-year-old coins, gold jewelry, and other artifacts from the Celtic period. The discoveries were made at a secret site in the Pilsen region to protect it from looters.
The finds include gold and silver coins with animal-like designs, fragments of ingots, bronze jewelry, and even a horse figurine. Many of the coins come from previously unknown mints, reshaping knowledge of Celtic coinage in Central Europe.
Interestingly, no signs of permanent settlement were found, suggesting the site was likely a seasonal market or fair where people exchanged goods and occasionally lost items like coins. Some of the artifacts are already on display at a local museum, while the most valuable ones remain secured for further study.
The Celts, often linked with Western Europe, also thrived in Central Europe, including present-day Czechia, where recent discoveries continue to highlight their influence and trade networks.
