Pingo Canadian Landmark
Pingo Canadian Landmark, located near Tuktoyaktuk in the Northwest Territories, protects eight prominent pingos in a coastal Arctic region. The area contains about 1,350 ice-cored hills, representing roughly a quarter of the world’s pingos.
These dome-shaped features form as underground ice pushes up the frozen ground, making the landmark a significant site for Arctic permafrost research and landscape preservation.by Adam Jones, CC BY-SA 2.0, via Wikimedia CommonsCanada
