Established in 2003, Gulf Islands National Park Reserve is located on and around the Gulf Islands of British Columbia. It represents the Strait of Georgia Lowlands natural region, the only part of Canada to experience a Mediterranean climate, with dry, sunny summers and wet, mild winters, due to a rain shadow effect from nearby mountain ranges.
The park spans approximately 36 km² and includes 16 main islands, over 30 islets and reefs, and surrounding marine environments. The diverse ecosystem supports a variety of flora, including coastal Douglas-fir, Pacific dogwood, Garry oak, Arbutus, and western red cedar.
The park is ecologically significant for housing the northern limit of several drought-resistant species. It is one of the smallest national parks in Canada, yet ecologically rich and scenically stunning.
