Situated in southern Canada along the shores of Lake Erie, the Long Point Biosphere Reserve includes a diverse array of ecological systems shaped by sand spit formations resulting from glacial erosion and deposits around the Laurentian Great Lakes. The reserve also contains some of the largest remaining forested areas within the Carolinian zone.
Its varied habitats provide critical stopover and staging areas for migratory waterfowl and land birds, making it a site of continental ecological importance.
Long Point Biosphere Reserve is included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR).
