Located on the eastern coast of New Brunswick, Kouchibouguac National Park spans 238 km² and protects a representative portion of the Maritime Plain. The park features an impressive mix of coastal barrier islands, extensive sand dunes, lagoons, salt marshes, and mixed forests.
Its ecosystems support around 50 species listed under the Canadian Species at Risk Act, including the endangered piping plover and one of North America’s largest tern colonies. Grey and harbour seals are often seen along the park’s 25 km stretch of dunes.
Kouchibouguac is also home to the delicate Gulf of St. Lawrence aster, a plant species highly vulnerable to environmental change.
In recent years, the elusive fisher marten has been spotted in the park, making it one of the few areas in the province where this species persists. Visitors enjoy a wide range of activities such as hiking, biking, swimming, interpretive Mi’kmaq cultural programs, and seal-watching, particularly around the popular Kelly’s Beach.
