Iftar represents the main meal that Muslims consume at sunset during the blessed month of Ramadan, marking the end of the daily fasting period from dawn until sunset. Families and communities often gather around the Iftar table, reinforcing bonds, and fostering a sense of charity, solidarity, and social interaction.
Knowledge and skills related to the preparation of traditional meals and the principles of fasting, along with associated social and spiritual values, are passed down within families. This transmission includes entrusting children and young people with meal preparation tasks, thereby also educating them about the benefits of fasting and the significance of Iftar.

Iftar/Eftari/Iftar/Iftor and its Socio-Cultural Traditions was inscribed in 2023 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Uzbekistan.
