According to archaeologists, a bronze key handle discovered in eastern England indicates that lions were used in executions in Roman Britain. The handle, which shows a struggle between a barbarian and a lion as well as four boys trembling in terror, was discovered under a Roman house off Great Central Street in Leicester. This discovery is considered unique throughout the ancient Roman Empire.
