Sbuâ, Annual Pilgrimage to the Zawiya of Sidi El Hadj Belkacem in Gourara
Sbuâ is a trip that the Zenata communities take in the southwest of the Algerian desert to visit mausoleums of saints to commemorate the birth of the Prophet Mohammed. The trip lasts for a week and includes a group of cultural practices of a social nature, such as visits and celebrations accompanied by singing and dancing, and then the visitors conclude their visit on the seventh day by gathering in a square outside a zawiya in the centre of Gourara, which houses the mausoleum of Sidi El Hadj Belkacem.
Sbuâ is considered by the communities as an expression of their history and the bonds that unite them.
Sbuâ, Annual Pilgrimage to the Zawiya of Sidi El Hadj Belkacem in Gourara was inscribed in 2015 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Algeria.
