Rites and Craftsmanship associated with the Wedding Costume Tradition of Tlemcen
Chedda of Tlemcen is a traditional Algerian dress for weddings and occasions found in the city of Tlemcen and some regions of the Algerian West. It consists of several pieces and is embroidered with Gilded thread with ornaments or jewels.
The craft used to create the precious wedding costume is transmitted from generation to generation, where the ritual symbolizes the alliance between families and continuity between generations. The craftsmanship of Chedda of Tlemcen plays a major role in sustaining creativity associated with the identity of the Tlemcen community.
Rites and Craftsmanship associated with the Wedding Costume Tradition of Tlemcen was inscribed in 2012 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Algeria.
