Ancient Hominid Site in Djurab Desert

Ancient Hominid Site in Djurab Desert or Koro Toro is the place where the remains of the Australopithecus bahrelghazali, one of the extinct species of australopithecine who existed around 3.5 million years ago, were discovered, in addition to the Sahelanthropus, which is an extinct species of the Homininae (African apes) dated to about 7 million years ago.
The site is located in the Djurab Desert in Chad. In the distant past, the desert was distinguished by its geological and animal characteristics, which were reflected through a unique mosaic of landscapes that combined lake and desert.
It was also frequented by many animals such as fish, crocodiles, snakes, turtles and hippos, in addition to the monkeys that lived in the forest areas near the water banks.
Ancient Hominid Site in Djurab Desert was submitted in 2005 to the UNESCO Tentative List in Chad.
