Fort Rouillé was a French trading post and military fort located in what is now Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1750 AD by the French colonial government to strengthen their presence along Lake Ontario and to divert Indigenous trade away from British posts, particularly Fort Oswego. The fort was named after Antoine Louis Rouillé, the French Minister of Marine. It served as a trading and diplomatic center with Indigenous nations, especially the Mississaugas. Fort Rouillé was abandoned and burned by the French themselves in 1759 AD, during the Seven Years’ War, to prevent it from falling into British hands. Today, a monument and plaque mark the location in Exhibition Place, Toronto.
