Ferlo Biosphere Reserve

Ferlo Biosphere Reserve is a nature reserve located in an agro-ecological zone in northern Senegal. The area is a low plateau and alluvial plain and is considered part of the Senegal River Basin.
The reserve includes plant and animal species of national, regional and international importance as well. Among animals we see the Red-fronted gazelle, golden jackal, spotted hyena, oryx, dorcas gazelle, in addition to various birds, the most important of which are the Helmeted guineafowl and the red-necked ostrich.
In terms of vegetation, Ferlo Reserve features a great diversity of ecosystems and plant species that include savannahs, shrubs, and grassy forests along rivers, bushes, valleys, ponds and pastures.
Ferlo Biosphere Reserve is included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR).
