Argania Biosphere Reserve

Argania Biosphere Reserve is a natural reserve located in southwest Morocco, covering a wide plain bordered by the High Atlas Mountains and the Anti-Atlas Mountains and facing the Atlantic Ocean in the west. The region is famous for one of the rare plant species endemic to it, the rare argan tree (Argania spinosa), which is not only important in terms of its preservation as a species, but also for the social and economic development of the region, as argan oil has multiple uses in cooking, medicine and cosmetics, and the trees are also used as firewood for cooking and heating.
The area is also home to various endemic plant species, such as the Lotus trees, while on the other hand it is distinguished by the presence of biodiversity where we see the desert lynx (Caracal), and the endangered Barbary sheep.
Argania Biosphere Reserve is included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR).
