Al Sadu, Traditional Weaving Skills in the United Arab Emirates
Al Sadu is a traditional form of weaving practiced by Bedouin women in rural communities in the United Arab. In weaving this type of fabric, camel hair, goat hair and sheep wool are used, from which rugs, pillows, tents, and blankets are made, in addition to camel’s saddles.
Al Sadu depends mainly on older women who master it, and the number of practitioners of this craft has decreased in recent years because of economic and social developments.
Al Sadu, Traditional Weaving Skills in the United Arab Emirates was inscribed in 2025 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in UAE.
