Knowledge and Practices Related to Cultivating Khawlani Coffee Beans

The Khawlani tribes of Saudi Arabia have been planting and cultivating coffee beans for more than 300 years and continue to do so today. Cultivation of Khawlani coffee beans begins with sowing the seeds in bags filled with soil, and then they are stored in the shade for a period of three to four months, after which they are transferred to the agricultural terraces until they grow and bear fruit.
Coffee is a symbol of generosity in Saudi Arabia, and people serve coffee made from the beans they produced on their farm. The cultivation of Khawlani coffee beans and the preparation of its coffee contribute to enhancing social cohesion and developing a sense of common identity among farmers.
Families pass the skills and techniques associated with this farming down from generation to generation.
