Falconry, a Living Human Heritage
Falconry is the traditional art and practice of training falcons and birds of prey and releasing them for hunting. In the past, falconry was a means of obtaining food, but today it has become a means of entertainment and communication with nature, practiced by people of all age groups.
Although falconers come from different countries and backgrounds, they share global values, traditions and practices, including the methods of breeding, training and caring for birds, the equipment used, and the nature of the bonds between falconers and birds. The falconry community includes all the entities and institutions that provide it with support such as falcon hospitals, breeding centers, conservation agencies and traditional equipment makers.
Falconry, a Living Human Heritage was inscribed in 2021 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Morocco, Netherlands, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Syria, UAE.
