Argan, Practices and Know-how Concerning the Argan Tree
The argan tree is one of the types of trees that spread in the southwest of Morocco, where rural women practice a range of traditional methods for extracting argan oil from the fruits of the tree, which is characterized by its many benefits such as its use as a food oil or in pharmaceutical and cosmetic preparations. This craft includes harvesting the fruit, drying, pulping, grinding, sorting, milling, and mixing, and this knowledge is passed on from women to their daughters.
Argan, Practices and Know-how Concerning the Argan Tree was inscribed in 2014 on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in Morocco.
