Old Fort Erie
Old Fort Erie is a historic British military fort located in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada, along the Niagara River. The original fort was built in 1764 AD by the British Army after the end of the Seven Years’ War, making it the first British fort built in what would become Ontario. A larger stone fort was constructed beginning in 1803 AD, and it played a major role during the War of 1812, especially in the Battle of Fort Erie in 1814 AD, one of the bloodiest battles fought on Canadian soil. The fort was eventually abandoned and later restored in the 20th century. Today, Old Fort Erie operates as a living history museum and a National Historic Site, showcasing early Canadian military history.
