Mukalla
Historic City of Al-Mukalla is a historic coastal city located in Hadhramaut Governorate , eastern Yemen. Emerging in the early 11th century AD as a small seaport, Al-Mukalla developed into a fortified port city under successive Islamic dynasties and later became the capital of the Qu‘aiti Sultanate in the early 20th century. The city is distinguished by its whitewashed buildings, elegant minarets, and palatial residences overlooking the Arabian Sea, reflecting a strong relationship between urban form and the maritime environment.
The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, Historic City of Al-Mukalla.
