Tarim, Yemen
Tarim is a historic city located in the Hadramaut Valley in Yemen, and one of the most important cultural and religious centers of southern Arabia. Along with Shibam, Tarim served as a capital for successive states that ruled Hadramaut. The city is renowned for its mudbrick palaces and mosques, most notably the Al-Mihdar Mosque with its iconic 40-meter-high mudbrick minaret. Tarim is also famous for its ribats and Islamic learning institutions, reflecting a long-standing tradition of scholarship and cultural exchange shaped by influences from India and Southeast Asia.
The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, Tarim City, Hadramout.
