    Al-Qarrah City is a historic fortified settlement located in the Yafa’ Region, Abyan Governorate, Yemen. Rising dramatically to about 2,500 meters above sea level, the city occupies the flat summit of an isolated rocky mountain, naturally protected by steep cliffs. Al-Qarrah served as the capital of the ‘Afifi Sultanate from the late 17th to the early 20th century and is renowned for its traditional multi-storey stone architecture, forts, mosques, rainwater cisterns, and defensive walls.
    The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, Al-Qarrah City, Yafe’.
