Historic City of Saada
Saada or Sadaa is a historic city and the capital of Saada Governorate in northwestern Yemen. It is considered one of the oldest medieval cities in the country and is renowned for its historical, architectural, urban, and religious significance. The city preserves elements of its traditional Islamic urban fabric, including historic mosques, defensive structures, and old residential quarters. Among its most important landmarks is Al-Hadi Mosque, built around 897 AD and named after Imam Yahya bin al-Husayn, the founder of the Zaydi Imamate in Yemen. The mosque has long served as a prominent religious and intellectual center in the region.
The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, Historic city of Saada.
