Old City of Hadda
Old City of Hadda is one of the key archaeological and heritage sites within the cultural landscape surrounding Sana’a, located approximately 5–12 km south of the Old City of Sana’a. The site reflects the historic adaptation of the mountainous terrain of the Sana’a Basin for settlement, defense, and water management. It is notable for its forts and castles, alongside with a rich concentration of mosques, residential buildings, and service structures, including a distinctive water-powered mill. The Old City of Hadda also preserves important hydraulic features, notably a central reservoir and an interconnected irrigation network, underscoring its role as an agricultural and defensive support area for Sana’a.
The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, Sites of the Cultural Landscape and Heritage Landmarks in Sana’a.
