Bayt Baws Fortress
Bayt Baws Fortress is a prominent defensive site located southwest of the Sana’a Basin, approximately 10 km from the Old City of Sana’a. Strategically positioned on elevated terrain, the fortress benefits from natural protection on three sides, while access is controlled through a main gate on the southern side. The site forms part of the wider defensive network encircling Sana’a and is notable for its advanced water-management features, particularly the Bayt Baws Dam, which ensured a reliable water supply for the garrison.
The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, Sites of the Cultural Landscape and Heritage Landmarks in Sana’a.
