Fort York is a historic British military fortification located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The fort was originally built in 1793 by the British to protect the entrance to Toronto Harbor and secure the new capital of Upper Canada, then known as York. It played an important role during the War of 1812, particularly during the Battle of York in 1813, when American forces attacked, briefly occupied the town, and destroyed much of the fort. It was later rebuilt in 1815.
