Fort Frontenac is a historic French military fort located at the eastern end of Lake Ontario, in present-day Kingston, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1673 AD by René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, under the orders of Governor Louis de Buade de Frontenac, as a strategic outpost to control access to the Great Lakes and expand the fur trade. The fort also served as a military base and supply depot. It was destroyed by the British in 1758 AD during the Seven Years’ War, and later rebuilt and used by the British. Today, the site is home to Canadian Forces Base Kingston and is recognized as a National Historic Site.
