Fort de la Montagne was a French mission fort located in what is now Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was established in 1675 AD by Sulpician missionaries to protect Christianized Indigenous peoples, especially the Algonquin and Iroquois converts, from attacks by hostile groups. The fort was part of the Sulpician mission of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, situated at the foot of Mount Royal. Although it was abandoned in the early 18th century, two stone towers from the original fort still survive and are designated as National Historic Sites of Canada. Fort de la Montagne reflects the religious, military, and cultural strategies of New France in its early efforts to colonize Indigenous populations.
