Tanji Bird Reserve
Tanji Bird Reserve, also known as Tanji River Sanctuary or Tanji National Park is a nature reserve located near the Atlantic Ocean at the town of Tanji in The Gambia. The vegetation in Tanji Bird Reserve consists of mangrove forests and coastal dune scrub woodland, and due to Bijol Islands and the presence of a series of offshore lagoons, the reserve is a place of sea turtles and a habitat for more than 300 species of birds.
Among the most important birds in the reserve are the Black-headed heron, white-fronted plover, Caspian tern, spur-winged plover, sanderling, Western reef heron, royal tern, lesser black-backed gull. ospreys, grey-headed gulls, slender-billed gulls, royal terns, Caspian terns, long-tailed cormorants, and Western reef herons.
