Thula
Thula is a historic mountain town located in Amran Governorate, Yemen, renowned for its exceptional state of preservation. The town flourished primarily during the Himyarite period, when it developed as a fortified urban settlement characterized by traditional multi-storey stone houses, defensive walls, and historic mosques that still define its architectural character today. Archaeological investigations have revealed that beneath the Himyarite town lie substantial remains dating back to the Sabaean period, including massive stone architecture that attests to Thula’s earlier importance in South Arabian civilization.
The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, The Historic City of Thula.
