Habban is a historic city located in Shabwah Governorate, southern Yemen, with origins dating back to the 7th century BC. The city was entirely built of traditional pure adobe and enclosed by an ancient city wall, and it represents a rare and well-preserved example of earthen urban architecture. The city of Habban developed as an important commercial center along ancient caravan trade routes and has remained continuously inhabited from antiquity to the present day. The historic city of Habban is distinguished by its cultural diversity and long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence between Muslim and Jewish communities. Its urban fabric includes historic mosques, libraries, shrines, pilgrimage sites, the Palace of the Wahidi Sultan, a Jewish quarter, and cemeteries serving both faiths.
The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, Habban City, Shabwah.
