    Shoal Tower is a historic Martello tower located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Built in 1847 AD, it was part of the Kingston fortifications designed to protect the city, its harbor, and the entrance to the Rideau Canal during a period of rising tensions with the United States. Constructed of limestone, the circular tower features thick defensive walls and a cannon platform. Shoal Tower was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 as part of Rideau Canal.
    The site is one of the elements that make up the UNESCO World Heritage site, Rideau Canal.
