Rideau Canal
Rideau Canal is a canal located in the city of Ottawa in Ontario province, Canada. The canal, which connects the Ottawa River in Ottawa with the Saint Lawrence River in Kingston, was constructed by the British between 1826 and 1832 AD for military use for the passage of steam-powered vessels. The canal is a popular tourism destination for both locals and visitors because of its scenic locks, quaint heritage villages, and stunning natural surroundings. It combines engineering prowess with the cultural traditions of the region, and it is distinguished by its great historical importance in the war waged by the major powers to control North America. Rideau Canal was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
