Fortress of Louisbourg is a historic French military fortification located on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. Originally built between 1720 AD and 1740 AD, it served as a key stronghold and trading hub for New France territory, protecting French interests in the North Atlantic. The fortress was twice captured by British forces, in 1745 AD and 1758 AD, during colonial conflicts. After its final capture, it was largely demolished by the British. Today, the Fortress of Louisbourg has been partially reconstructed as a National Historic Site.
