Sanganeb Marine National Park and Dungonab Bay – Mukkawar Island Marine National Park
This natural element consists of two separate areas, the first is Sanganeb Island, which is a collection of isolated reef structures in the middle of the Red Sea, while the second part consists of Dungonab Bay – Mukkawar Island, north of Port Sudan, which is a highly diverse system of coral reefs and, in addition to seagrass beds, beaches and small islands. The two areas are distinguished by their unique and bio-environmental diversity, as they are home to groups of seabirds, marine mammals, fish, sharks, turtles and manta rays, in addition to the presence of large numbers of dugongs in Dungonab Bay that considered one of the most important populations of dugongs in the world.
Sanganeb Marine National Park and Dungonab Bay – Mukkawar Island Marine National Park was inscribed in 2016 in the UNESCO World Heritage List in Sudan.
