Souk El Attarine, Tunis
Souk El Attarine is a historical market located next to the Al-Zaytuna Mosquee in the old city of Tunis, Tunisia. The market was founded in 1240 AD by Abu Zakariya Yahya (Abu Zakariya Yahya I), founder and first sultan of the Hafsid dynasty that ruled Tunisia and parts of Libya and Algeria in the period between 1229 and 1547 AD. Souk El Attarine was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 as part of Medina of Tunis.
