Mansa Musa Mosque in Gao
Mansa Musa Mosque, also known as Kankou Moussa Mosque, is a historic ruined mosque located in the city of Gao in the Gao Region of eastern Mali. The mosque, which belongs to the Sudano-Sahelian architecture, was built in the year 1324 AD by the King of Mali Empire, Mansa Musa, after his return from Hajj. It was designed by the architect and Andalusian Islamic scholar, Abu Ishaq al-Sahili (al-Tuwayjin). Work is currently underway to protect and preserve its archaeological structures.
