    The Great Mosque of Sankore, also known as the Great Mosque of Timbuktu, is a historic mosque located in the city of Timbuktu, Mali. The oldest mosque was built in the 10th century AD, and then again in the 14th century AD by Mansa Musa, the 10th mansa (king) of the Mali Empire between 1312 and 1337. The mosque also houses the University of Sankore (Sankore Madrasah), one of the oldest Islamic educational centers in Timbuktu. The Great Mosque of Sankore was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988, as part of Timbuktu.
    The site is one of the elements that make up the UNESCO World Heritage site, Timbuktu.
