    Cherchell, ancient Caesarea, is a seaport town in the Province of Tipaza, Algeria. The city was founded as a Phoenician settlement around 400 BC to serve as a trading station and named the city Iol or Jol. In the Roman era the city was called Caesarea.
    The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, Sites, Augustinian places and routes the central Maghreb.
