Complexe Kokorou-Namga
Complexe Kokorou-Namga, or Kokorou (Kokoro), is a shallow, brackish land (marshy land) located in an ancient water valley that was once a tributary of the Niger River. The site, which is located in Tillabéri Region of western Niger, is surrounded by sand dunes, granite outcrops and flat hills.
The Kokorou wetland is an important ecological area on the Afro-Eurasian flyway for migratory birds. The complex is home to some endangered bird species such as the Black crowned crane, the Common moorhen, and the Western swamphen.
Today the site is threatened with desertification due to deforestation and overgrazing.
