Chott El Jerid is a vast endorheic basin and inland salt lake located in southern Tunisia. The lake is characterized by the presence of a salt crust that covers it in the summer when evaporation rates are high.
Chott El Jerid is home to many halophytic plants and herbs. The lake is also characterized by the presence of many water birds, especially pink flamingos that use the lake shores as nesting sites in the spring.
Chott El Jerid was submitted in 2008 to the UNESCO Tentative List in Tunisia.
