Temple of the Winged Lions
Temple of the Winged Lions is a large Nabataean temple complex located in the ancient city of Petra in Ma’an Governorate, southern Jordan. The construction of the temple dates back to the reign of Aretas IV Philopatris, the Nabatean king, who ruled between 9 BC and 40 AD. The temple was dedicated to the great goddess figure in the Nabataean religion, whose identity has not yet been determined, and it was destroyed in 363 AD due to the great earthquake at the time. The temple was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 as part of Petra.
