    Umayyad Mosque, also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world, located in the old city of Damascus, Syria. It was built by the Umayyad caliph Al-Walid I in 715 AD. The mosque was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 as part of the ancient city of Damascus.
    The site is one of the elements that make up the UNESCO World Heritage site, Ancient City of Damascus.
