Sousse
Sousse or Soussa, ancient Hadrumetum, is a city and the capital of the Sousse Governorate in Tunisia. It was founded by Phoenicians as Hadrumetum in the 11th century BC. Like other western Phoenician colonies, the city became part of the Carthaginian Empire in the 6th century BC . Under the Aghlabids, Susa was established near the ruins of Hadrumetum and served as their main port in the 9th century AD. The city was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.
