    Meroe is an ancient city on the east bank of the Nile north-east of the Kabushiya station near Shendi, Sudan. This city was the capital of the Kingdom of Kush for several centuries and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.
    The site is one of the elements that make up the UNESCO World Heritage site, Archaeological Sites of the Island of Meroe.
