Oases of Kaouar
Oases of Kaouar are a chain of 10 oases located in the south of the Sahara in the Agadez region of northeastern Niger. Kaouar oases are famous for their salt and dates production, and they were located along the caravan route between the African Sahel region in the south and the Mediterranean region in the north, until the 19th century AD. The oases include many archaeological sites and rock paintings, and the history of human settlement in them goes back nearly 10,000 years, when the area was surrounded by fertile grasslands.
