Gobero
Gobero is a Holocene archaeological site located in the Ténéré Desert in Agadez Region, Niger. The site, which dates back to the 8th millennium BC, includes about 200 graves, and is considered the oldest known cemetery in the Sahara desert. In the past, the region was a green oasis and the site of an ancient freshwater lake called Gobero, while the archaeological site was located on its shores and on a dune that rises slightly above its basin. Excavation at the site yielded a wide range of human and animal bones, as well as archaeological finds and stone artifacts that included serrated, abrasive and piercing tools, in addition to arrowheads, axes, grinding stones and other tools.
