Cultural Heritage of Sudd Wetland
The Sudd Wetland is a vast natural and cultural landscape located in South Sudan, closely associated with the traditional way of life of the Dinka, Nuer, Shilluk, and Anyuak communities. For generations, these communities have adapted to the seasonal flooding of the White Nile through cattle herding, fishing, and the establishment of temporary settlements on elevated ground and islands. Their traditional practices and cultural beliefs reflect a deep connection between local communities and the surrounding wetland environment.
The site is included on the UNESCO Tentative List under the official name, Sudd Wetland.
