Chamaa Castle
Chamaa Castle is a ruined castle located near Chamaa village in the South Lebanon Governorate. The castle was built by the Crusaders in 1116 AD in a strategic location overlooking the city of Tire and the coast of Haifa. The castle is adjacent to the shrine of the Prophet Shamoun as-Safa, which is considered an important shrine that people visit annually.
The site is one of the elements included in the UNESCO Tentative List for World Heritage designation, The castles of Mount Amel: Qalaat Al Chakif (Beaufoert castle), Qalaat Tibnin (Toron castle), Qalaat Chakra (Dubieh castle), Qalaat Deir kifa (Maron castle) and Qalaat Chama’.
